The catalytic asymmetric Favorskii reaction is the addition of a metal alkynylide, generated in situ from a chiral metal catalyst, base, and terminal alkyne, to an aldehyde or ketone to afford chiral, enantioenriched propargylic alcohols.[1] Catalysts containing zinc, copper, indium, and other metals have been employed to generate the corresponding metal alkynylides.
